ANNOUNCEMENTS

The club began monthly meetings again in September and we've already signed up 9 new members. We've got two events planned for this month (October) and will be planning others for the coming months. Look for our annual holiday party in December. We're working with a company to produce more club burgees. If you're interested in one, contact Steve Stein, club Membership Officer. Also, we'll start collecting dues ($10/member) for 2012 at our November meeting. Steve

October 2011 - When we retired, we thought that we would have time to do the things that we couldn't do while working and raising families. Here in The Villages, there are so many clubs and activities that time seems to vanish. As we begin year 7, the club has sponsored many events: sailing on Lakes Sumter, Harris, Miona, and Weir plus chartering in the Gulf. We have participated in Outdoor Expo, and the Christmas and St. Patrick's Day parades. Picnics on Lake Miona and sailing to Gator Joe's on Lake Weir have always been fun, except for last year on LakeWeir when we could not get close enough to the beach area at Gator Joe's because of the number of power boats there--so much for trying on a weekend. This year, we will be able to use a 27-ft sailboat on Lake Harris owned by Bob Taylor. This is the boat on which Artie and I helped to install an inboard engine, rig, and launch last spring with the assistance of Steve Stein and Ron Anderson. The club still needs more sailboats so that all members have a chance to be on the water. I encourage members who think they may want to buy a boat to see me or one of the other boat owners in the club. We will gladly give you help in selecting and inspecting a prospective boat, and in getting it "sea" worthy. I want to thank those who have given their time and efforts towards the business of keeping this club going. Fair winds and smooth sailing!
Rich Mosher, Commodore
